Company history

The mail order pharmacy was founded in 2001 by Peter Weber and Stephan Weber as an online shop for their stationary pharmacy in Cologne. Following an amendment to the OTC Medicines Act in 2004, it became possible to ship non-prescription medicines. In 2010, Shop Apotheke was initially taken over by Europa Apotheek Venlo , then a subsidiary of Medco Health Solutions . In 2012 Europa Apotheek and Shop Apotheke went back to the founders through a management buy-out . In 2015 Shop Apotheke was spun off from the Europa-Apotheek Group. Shop Apotheke has been listed on the stock exchange since October 2016.

In September 2017, the shop pharmacy took over the former parent company Europa Apotheek Venlo in return for the issue of new shares.

International expansion

Since 2012, the shop pharmacy has also been selling non-prescription drugs and dietary supplements in Austria. France and Belgium followed in 2015; In addition to prescription-free medicines, the two shops primarily offer pharmacy cosmetics.
