The Hornbach Baumarkt AG is one of the largest operators of construction and garden centers across Europe . It is a subsidiary of Hornbach Holding AG & Co. KGaA, which is also listed . Hornbach Baumarkt AG is based in Bornheim (Palatinate) .

In fiscal year 2019/2020 (March 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020) scored the HORNBACHBaumarkt group sales of 4.4 billion euros .

The Hornbach Baumarkt Group currently operates a total of 160 DIY megastores with garden centers and online shops in nine European countries, 96 of which are in Germany (also: Austria , the Netherlands , the Czech Republic , Luxembourg , Switzerland , Sweden , Slovakia , Romania ). history

In 1877, master slater Michael Hornbach founded a craft business in Landau in the Palatinate . In 1900, his son Wilhelm Hornbach expanded it to include a building materials store. The great-grandson of the company founder, Otmar Hornbach , opened the first combined DIY and garden center in Europe in 1968 in Bornheim (Palatinate) . His sons Albrecht and Steffen Hornbach are today chairmen of the supervisory board and the management board of Hornbach Baumarkt AG.

In 1987 the company went as a public company for the first time at the stock exchange . In the course of the second IPO in 1993, Hornbach AG became Hornbach Holding AG (today: Hornbach Holding AG & Co. KGaA) and Hornbach-Baumarkt-AG (today's spelling: Hornbach Baumarkt AG). Hornbach Holding AG & Co. KGaA holds 76.4 percent of the shares in Hornbach Baumarkt AG, the remainder is in free float .

In August 2019, Steffen Hornbach announced that he would resign from the chairmanship at the end of the year.

Awards

In 2000 the company received the Golden Sugar Loaf and in 2006 the German Retail Award for “Management Performance of the Year” . In 2007 Otmar Hornbach, pioneer and founder of the DIY store company, received the “Lifetime Award” from the trade association for DIY, building and gardening (BHB) for his life's work.
