The Bremer Bank Aktiengesellschaft (short BKB Bank ) was a German credit institution in the legal form of a joint stock company based in Bremen . The bank was merged with the Oldenburgische Landesbank in 2018 .

history

On November 18, 1863, the Bremen advance payment association was founded by six people. One of the founders was the lawyer Albert Gröning , who later became a senator. In 1869 the association was converted into a cooperative and entered in the cooperative register. In 1872 the name was changed to Bremer Gewerbebank . The number of members grew from 98 in 1863 to 2763 in 1875. In 1885 the cooperative was converted into a public limited company.

In 1882 the bank moved into a new building at Langenstrasse No. 4. The bank building was expanded in 1891 and now extended to the neighboring houses. In 1897 the institute was renamed Bank für Handel und Gewerbe AG . In 1900 and 1914 further expansions took place.

Branches were set up in Findorff, Oberneuland and Thedinghausen . In 1921 it was renamed again, this time to Bankverein für Nordwestdeutschland AG . After the inflation of the 1920s, the branches in Bremerhaven and Geestemünde were handed over to JF Schröder Bank .
