Adam Lane

Adam Lane (born September 22, 1968 ) is an American jazz bassist and composer .

Lane received his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University , where he a. a. studied with Anthony Braxton . He obtained his master's degree from CalArts (studied with Wadada Leo Smith and Daniel Rothman ). In 1996 he received a scholarship to visit the Darmstadt International Music Institute . There he studied composition in the master classes of Karlheinz Stockhausen , Klaus Huber , Mathias Spahlinger , and also double bass with Stefano Scodanibbio .

After returning to the United States, Lane et al. a. with his own formations, including Fo (u) r Being (s) , a quartet with John Tchicai , Paul Smoker and Barry Altschul , with whom he recorded for CIMP , as well as Duo Music with Blaise Siwula (album on Cadence Jazz Records , 2002) and Nowhere Zen: Chamber Works and Solo Statements (Evander Music, 2002). He also works in New York with Louie Bellogenis , Lou Grassi , Andrew Drury , Carol Liebowitz and Brad Shepik ; he also took part in recordings by John Tchicai ( Infinitesimal Flash , 2000). With Vinny Golia and Vijay Anderson he also appeared as a trio ( Music Degree Zero , 2005) in Vilnius . He presented his nonet Full Thtrottle Orchestra , which includes Taylor Ho Bynum and Reut Regev , at the 2013 Ljubljana Jazz Festival. He also recorded with Darius Jones ( Big Gurl ) and with William Hooker ( Channels of Consciousness , 2013).

Lane wrote several compositions for chamber ensembles; Mini Pig 2000 , Elvis' Tomb is Empty and Fire Up the Pig for the California Ear Unit and the Arcosanti Young Composers Conference . Lane alternates between New York and San Francisco. He also received composition commissions. He has received the New Langton Arts Bay Area Creative Artist Award and the Julius Hemphill Award .
