Konnex Records is a recording company , which was founded in Berlin in 1984 and specializes in jazz , which was founded and managed by Manfred Schieck († 2016).

history

Schieck's label is dedicated to contemporary jazz . First he took on British musicians such as John Stevens , Trevor Watts , Keith Tippett , Ken Hyder or Allan Holdsworth , whose work was very poorly documented in the mid-1970s; were added Zbigniew Namysłowski , Toto Blanke and Klaus Lenz . The name of the original vinyl label has been changed to View due to copyright issues .

In 1984, Schieck founded the second label, Konnex Records , which became the roof for his activities. He not only included recordings by established musicians such as Charlie Mariano , Sonny Fortune , Peter Brötzmann , Anthony Braxton , Tony Oxley , Ingrid Sertso , Christoph Spendel or Cecil Taylor and Ali Haurand's projects in his program, but also devoted himself to the next generation, for example Holger Mantey , Achim Kaufmann , Henriette Müller , Felix Wahnschaffe , Kim Efert , Pascal Niggenkemper or Carl Ludwig Hübsch . The label also dedicated itself to the transition to improvisation music , as evidenced by albums by Jon Rose , John Blum and Antonis Anissegos .

Instead of View, Konnex Records also used the sublabel, which was founded in 1984, to market specific genres in a targeted manner: while Dossier published Techno and Industrial , Atonal was dedicated to the avant-garde; Art Zoyd appeared there, for example , but also pianist David Tudor , whose album David Tudor Plays Cage and Tudor (1993) developed quite successfully for this genre with 3,000 copies sold.
