Carl Ludwig Huebsch

Carl Ludwig Hübsch (* 1966 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( tuba ).

Live and act

Hübsch first learned the clarinet, then switched to drums and in 1983 from clarinet to tuba. He studied mostly autodidactically, but also at the PH Freiburg drums, singing and electronic music as well as harmony and composition and was later a guest student in the composition class of Johannes Fritsch at the University of Music in Cologne. He has founded his own groups ( e.g. Primordial Soup with Frank Gratkowski , Michael Griener and Axel Dörner ) and was one of the four conductors / composers of the James Choice Orchestra with Gratkowski, Schubert and Norbert Stein . Since 1989 there has been collaboration with musicians such as Arthur Blythe , Lester Bowie , Jasper van't Hof , Paul Lytton , Hannes Zerbe , Willem Breuker , Tomasz Stańko , Pinguin Moschner , Thomas Lehn , Ernst Reijseger , Gunda Gottschalk , Harald Kimmig , Lê Quan Ninh , Uli Böttcher or Sebastian Gramss . In 1994 he founded the group Post No Bills with Chris Weinheimer , Tom Lorenz , Robert Schleisiek and Ole Schmidt , which, in addition to jazz music, specializes in improvisation music and new music (e.g. John Cage's "Variations" and "Number Pieces" and Christian Wolff's "Exercises").

In addition to his work in various band projects and orchestras, he gives solo concerts and workshops for brass. Hübsch hosted the SWR New Jazz Meeting ; Under the title Pretty Eight , he combined his Trio Universe with Matthias Schubert and Wolter Wierbos, which has existed since 2000, as well as his Drift quartet with Isabelle Duthoit , Joris Rühl and Christian Lillinger to form an octet with Philip Zoubek and the electronics engineer Joker Nies.

The 2003 Jazzpot Prize winner is involved in numerous radio and CD productions and has performed at numerous European festivals, but also at the Mexican Encuentro de jazz in Monterrey .
