Sredneuralsk ( Russian Среднеуральск ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 20,449 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals , about 25 km north of the Oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the eastern bank of Lake Issetskoye , from which the Isset flows in the Ob river system .
Sredneuralsk has been an independent urban district since the administrative reform in 2006 ; previously it was administratively subordinate to the city of Verkhnyaya Pyschma , located five kilometers to the east .
history
Sredneuralsk was established in 1931 in connection with the construction of the Sredneuralskaja GRES thermal power station ( Central Urals thermal power station ) and received city rights in 1966.

Culture and sights
In the vicinity of the city there are remarkable rock formations, such as Chortowo Gorodishche ( Devil's City ) and Sem bratjew ( Seven Brothers ).
economy
In addition to the city-building thermal power plant, which today belongs to the energy supplier OGK-5 , there are companies in the construction industry (metal and reinforced concrete structures) and the food industry.
