Resch ( Russian Реж ) is a city in the Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 38,215 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located east of the Middle Urals , about 80 km northeast of the Oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the Resch river of the same name , the right source river of the Niza in the Ob river system .

Resch forms a district of the same name .

The city lies on the Yekaterinburg - Tawda railway line, which opened in 1916 .

history

Resch was created in 1773 in connection with the establishment of an ironworks , which was known for its artistic forge products until the beginning of the 20th century . In 1943 the place received city rights. In Resch there was a POW camp 523 for German POWs of the Second World War .

Culture and sights

In downtown Resch part of the historic wooden buildings that survived, as well the Church of John the Baptist on the Orlowberg ( церковь Иоанна Предтечи на Орловой горе / Tserkov Ioanna Predtechi na Orlowoi gore) and the Church of Nativity ( церковь Рождества Христова / Zerkow Roschdestwa Christowa ).

The city has a history museum .

economy

Nickel ore is mined near the city , on the basis of which Reschnikel AG operates a nickel smelter in the city. There is also a machine factory and companies in the timber and construction industries.

Resch is surrounded by an agricultural area.
