history

The area of today's city was first settled in 1832 with the discovery of gold - soap deposits , which, however, did not prove to be productive. Later in the 19th century, however, the Bogomolow copper gravel deposit was discovered here (after the gold prospector Bogomolow, on whose territory it is located). In 1925 their development and the construction of a copper smelter began with the associated settlement Bogomolstroi ( Богомолстрой ). In 1929 it was renamed Uralmedstroi ( Уралмедьстрой ). In 1932 the place was given city rights under its current name (Russian красный / krasny for red ; here both with reference to the color of the copper and with ideological significance, see Red October for the October Revolution ).

In the city there was a POW camp 376 for German prisoners of war of the Second World War .
