Verkhny Tagil ( Russian Верхний Тагил ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 11,843 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals , about 110 km northwest of the Oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the Tagil , a tributary of the Tura in the Ob river system .
Verkhny Tagil forms an independent urban district .
The city is connected to the Neiwa station of the Perm - Kushwa railway line ( Goroblagodatskaya station ) - Yekaterinburg via a 16 km long branch line. The station of the city is called Verkhtagilskaya .
history
Verkhny Tagil was founded in 1716 in connection with the establishment of the Werktagilski Sawod ironworks ( Upper Tagil Works to distinguish it from the Lower Tagil Works , Nizhnetagilski Sawod , today Nizhny Tagil ) by the Demidow family . The plant, which was commissioned in 1718, was closed after 1917. In 1966 the place received city rights.

Culture and sights
Various buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the city, such as the manor house of the owners (1767) and the office building (1772) of the former ironworks, as well as the Church of Our Lady Praying ( арам Знамения Пресвятой Богородицы / Chram Snamenija Preswjatoi) Bogorái by 1864.
Verkhny Tagil has a history and local museum .
economy
In addition to the Werntenagil thermal power station ( Werntenagilskaja GRES ) of the energy supplier OGK-1, there is a building construction works and a furniture factory as well as a fishing industry on the Tagil dammed up here.
