Nizhnyaya Salda ( Russian: Нижняя Салда ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 17,619 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Urals , 150 km north of the oblast capital Yekaterinburg and 50 km east of Nizhny Tagil , on the Salda River . The climate is continental.
The city of Nizhnyaya Salda is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast.
Nizhnyaya Salda is located on the Nizhny Tagil - Alapayevsk railway line, which opened in 1912 .
history
Nizhnyaya Salda was built in 1760 when an ironworks belonging to Nikita Akinfijewitsch Demidow (the grandson of Nikita Demidowitsch Demidow ) was completed here. In the 19th century, the ironworks played an important role in the introduction of new production processes for what was then Russia, such as a modified Bessemer process (by Konstantin Polenow and Wladimir Grum-Grschimailo, among others ).
In 1938 the place received city rights.

Culture, education and sights
There is a research institute for mechanical engineering in Nizhnyaya Salda.
The city has a local museum.
On the western edge of the city there is a grove with Siberian stone pines that are up to 320 years old .
economy
In addition to the steel and rolling mills, there are construction ( cement ) and forestry companies.
