history

At the end of the 16th century, the first wooden fortress in the Urals was founded at the mouth of the river, the Loswinski gorodok ( Лозьвинский городок , roughly translated as "Loswa town"). The village of Nikito-Iwdel has been occupied since 1831, later in the form of Nikito-Iwdelskoye.

There has been a wood processing industry in the town since 1925, which was given its current name in 1924. In 1937 the IwdelLag , a penal camp of the NKVD, was founded there. Parts of the former NKVD camp still exist as a prison camp for serious criminals. On May 28, 1943 the town charter was granted.
