Verkhnyaya Salda ( Russian Верхняя Салда ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 46,221 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Urals , about 150 km north of the oblast capital Yekaterinburg and 35 km east of Nizhny Tagil , on the Salda River . The climate is continental.
The city of Verkhnyaya Salda is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
Verkhnyaya Salda is located on the railway line Nizhny Tagil - Alapayevsk, opened in 1912 .
history
Verkhnyaya Salda was created in 1778 in connection with the construction of an ironworks and foundry . On February 25, 1929, the place received the status of a work settlement and on December 24, 1938 city rights.

Culture, education and sights
A faculty of the State Technical University of the Urals region (Yekaterinburg) is located in Verkhnyaya Salda .
economy
On the basis of the ironworks, the most important - and eponymous - plant for titanium and titanium alloys of the world's largest titanium producer VSMPO-AVISMA was built in Verkhnyaya Salda . In 2010 the Russian government established the "Titanium Valley" special economic zone.
There are also companies in the construction and food industries.
