Tawda ( Russian Тавда ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 35,421 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the west of the West Siberian lowlands , about 360 km northeast of the Oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the right bank of the river Tawda , a left tributary of the Tobol in the Ob river system .

Tawda is the center of the urban district of the same name .

The city was reached in 1916 by a railway line from Yekaterinburg via Yegorschino (now Artyomovsky ). In 1969 the route was extended 185 km to Meschduretschenski ( Ustye-Acha station ).

history

Tawda was founded in 1910 as a forest workers' settlement, which was chosen as the end point for a railway line opened in 1916, and received city rights on July 20, 1937.

Culture and sights

There is a museum of the wood and wood processing industry in Tavda . Tawda is also a balneological health resort , based on 42 ° C warm healing water , which comes to light 2.5 kilometers from the city center.
