Nevyansk ( Russian Невьянск ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 24 567 inhabitants (14 October 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals , about 100 km north of the Oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the Neiwa , the left source tributary of the Niza in the Ob river system .
Nevyansk is the center of an urban district of the same name .
Nevyansk is located on the Perm - Yekaterinburg railway, which was opened in 1878 , on the former Ural mining railway (Уральская Горнозаводская железная дорога / Uralskaja Gornosavodskaja schelesnaja doroga).
history
Newjansk was established in 1701 in connection with the construction of the Newjansky Sawod ironworks , which soon became one of the most important in the Ural region. A famous visitor to the city in the 19th century was Alexander von Humboldt . Despite the relatively large population, the place received city rights only in 1919.

Culture and sights
The main attraction is the so-called Leaning Tower of Nevyansk , a watchtower built around 1725–1740 by the Demidov entrepreneurial family who owned the ironworks at that time. The axis of the approximately 57.5 meter high tower deviates from the vertical by 1.85 meters (according to other information 2.20 meters) at the top. The image of the leaning tower can also be seen on the Nevyansk city arms.
The Transfiguration Cathedral ( Спасо-Преображенский собор / Spasso-Preobrazhensky sobor) is one of the larger number of other preserved buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries .
In Nevyansk there is a local museum and a museum of ceramics and glass art .

There is a machine factory in Nevyansk as well as construction companies (cement, precast reinforced concrete, bricks).
