history
The current name as Brandenburg dates back to the 19th century and is therefore not to be equated with the earlier castle name. It probably originated from the combination of the two place names of Brand and Burg. The history of this castle complex , as well as that of the castle near Burg , located 300 meters south-east , is still completely unknown, and written evidence that can be related to one of these two complexes is also not known. Possibly they belonged to the rule of the Falkensteiners from their nearby Falkenstein Castle above the Höllental . Franz Xaver Kraus points out that the Burgstall am Galgenbühl could have been the medieval castle seat of the Lords of Weiler, the presumed ancestors of the Falkensteiners (see Stegen-Weiler Castle ) . The place name for the Kirchzart district of Burg probably refers more to the fortified Celtic settlement Tarodunum , which was in the immediate vicinity of the village, than to the medieval fortifications.
Remains of the walls of the former castle complex were still preserved until the end of the 19th century. Today only the castle hill and the remains of the moat can be seen.
