Reftinski ( Russian Ре́фтинский ) is an urban-type settlement in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 16,496 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the eastern foreland of the Middle Urals , about 70 kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of the oblast capital Yekaterinburg on the right bank of the reservoir of the same name, to which the left Pyschma tributary Reft or its source rivers Bolshoi and Maly Reft (Large and Small Reft) are pent up.

Reftinski has formed its own urban district since 2004 , after having previously been subordinate to the administration of the city of Asbestos , 15 kilometers south-west, since its foundation .

history

Reftinski was founded in 1963 in connection with the construction of the Reftinski thermal power station (Reftinskaja GRES) . First of all, the temporary construction workers' settlement Opuschka was built twelve kilometers away.

On December 30, 1966, the settlement at its current location was given the status of urban-type settlement under the name derived from the name of the river. In 1970 the first, and in 1980 the tenth and last power plant unit went into operation.

Economy and Infrastructure

The city-building company is the Reftinskaya GRES thermal power plant operated by OGK-5 . With an installed capacity of 3800  megawatts , it is the most powerful thermal power plant in Russia operated with solid fuels - hard coal from the Ekibastus basin in Kazakhstan . One of the power plant's chimneys is 330 meters high.

Another important company is Reftinskaja Ptizefabrika ("Reftinsk Poultry Factory") , which opened in 1982 as the largest poultry farm in the Ural region . The industrial area is located on the northern bank of the reservoir opposite the settlement.

Reftinski is the end point of a 14-kilometer electrified railway line that branches off from the Reft station on the eastern route from Nizhny Tagil or Serow via Alapayevsk to Bogdanowitsch on the Trans-Siberian Railway . There is a suburban train connection to Yekaterinburg via these routes . The direct connection in a south-westerly direction via asbestos is interrupted by opencast mines or is only used for goods and factory traffic.

There is a connection via asbestos to the R351 Yekaterinburg – Tyumen road . An unpaved road leads east to Sukhoi Log .
