Mikhailovsk ( Russian Михайловск ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 9,852 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the western flank of the Middle Urals , about 160 km southwest of the oblast capital Yekaterinburg at the confluence of the Serga in the Ufa in the river system of the Kama .
Mikhailovsk belongs to the Nizhniy Sergi Raion .
The city is located about 10 km west of the railway line Kalino (near Tschussowoi ) - Kusino - Berdjausch , the former West-Ural Railway ( Западно-Уральская железная дорога / Sapadno-Uralskaja schelesnaja doroga) , opened in 1916 . The city's station is called Mikhailovsky Zavod and is connected to the city via a freight connection line.
history
Michailowsk was created in 1805 in connection with the construction of the Mikhailovsky Sawod ironworks by the Moscow merchant Mikhail Gubin. The Serga was dammed here for the operation of the plant. In 1942 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on January 9, 1961 city rights.

Culture and sights
Merchants' houses from the 19th century have been preserved in the city center.
The city has a local museum.

Russia's largest manufacturer of aluminum foil and a paper factory are located in Mikhailovsk .
