Tschussowoi ( Russian Чусовой ) is a city in the Perm region ( Russia ) with 46,735 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located on the western edge of the Urals , about 150 km northeast of the regional capital Perm at the confluence of the Wilwa into the Uswa and the latter into the Tschussowaja , a left tributary of the Kama .

Chusovoy is administratively directly subordinate to the region and at the same time the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

The city lies on the railway line Perm - Yekaterinburg , from which a branch line branches off to Solikamsk ( Chusovaya station ).

history

Downtown

In the place of the present city, a village called Kamassino had been known since the 16th century . A significant upturn took the place in 1874 in connection with the construction of the Urals mine-railroad (Russian Уральская Горнозаводская железная дорога / Uralskaja Gornosawodskaja schelesnaja doroga) Permian Kushva ( Goroblagodatskaja ) -Jekaterinburg, the first Ural crossing a railway track, as here Chusovaya station (named after the river) was built. The line was opened in 1878, followed by the branch to Solikamsk the following year.

In 1879 construction of the Chusovsky Zavod ironworks began. The place was now called Tschussowoje , received the status of urban-type settlement after 1917 and, in 1933, with its current name, city rights.

Culture and sights

Palace of Culture

The city has a local museum. Nearby, on the river Uswa, there is a Komi-Permyak burial mound and the remains of the settlement Telyachi Brod from the 9th to 14th centuries.

Steel mill

The most important company in the city is the Chusovsky metallurgic combination, which emerged from the old ironworks . There are also other companies for metal processing and mechanical engineering, the wood and construction industry and the food industry.
