Krasnovishersk ( Russian Красновишерск ) is a city in the Perm region ( Russia ) with 16,099 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the western flank of the Northern Urals about 315 km north of the regional capital Perm on the left bank of the Wischera , a left tributary of the Kama .
Krasnovishersk is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
The nearest railway station is about 100 kilometers south in Solikamsk . The city has a river port: the Wischera is navigable up to here.
history
In place of today's city, an ironworks was built between 1894 and 1897 near the village of Wischaicha by the Russian-French Volga-Wischera AG .
In 1929 the construction of a cellulose plant began. A camp for political prisoners had existed in Krasnovishersk since 1926, initially as a branch of the Solovetsky camp , then as the central office of the Wischeralag in the Gulag system. Here was u. a. the writer Varlam Shalamov was imprisoned.
In February 1942, the city received the present name city charter, which Krasno- (Russian for red - ) original ideological meaning (as opposed to, for example. Krasnokamsk ).

Culture and sights
There is a History Museum in Krasnovishersk, and natural monuments in the vicinity, such as rocks in the Vishera Valley, including some with rock carvings .
economy
The city-building company is the cellulose and paper combine of Wischerabumprom AG . There is also the food industry and timber industry, in the Rajon mining of diamonds and other gemstones through Uralalmas .
