Vladimir Machnutin began tobogganing in 1997, where he competed in a two-seater with his partner Vladislav Yushakov . The duo achieved their first successes in the junior division; there he succeeded in a junior World Cup in Lillehammer in December 2005, the jump on the podium. In the adult world cup, in which Machnutin and Yushakov have been competing since the 2006/07 season , they did not repeat this triumph. On the other hand, they immediately belonged to the upper midfield with results between tenth and 20th place and at the same time placed the second best Russian double behind Michail Kuzmitsch and Stanislaw Michejew . Therefore, Machnutin and Yuschakow have been nominated for all World and European Championships since 2007 , where they confirmed their achievements from the World Cup.
With further solid results in the Luge World Cup 2009/10 - the best results here were two twelfth places - Machnutin and Yuschakow qualified for the first time for the Olympic Winter Games , which took place in Vancouver in 2010 . The doubles fell during training for the competition at the Whistler Sliding Center . However, the accident had no consequences, so that the doubles could compete in the Olympic competition and there, as the best Russian team, reached tenth place. At the Luge World Championships 2012 in Altenberg , he won the silver medal with the team relay.
