Luge World Championships 2012

The 43rd FIL World Luge Championships were held from February 6th to 12th, 2012 on the sled and bobsled run in Altenberg in the Ore Mountains .

The world championship was awarded to Altenberg by the world federation FIL in June 2008 after its only competitor, the Whistler Mountain artificial ice rink , withdrew its candidacy. After 1996 the title fights took place in Altenberg for the second time.

Tatjana Hüfner won her fourth individual gold medal at the Luge World Championships, drawing level with Margit Schumann and Sylke Otto .
Tatiana Iwanowa set a new track record with 52.161 seconds.

Felix Loch won his third World Cup gold medal. For the Russian Luge Association, Albert Demchenko's silver medal was the first ever at the World Luge Championships. After six gold and three silver medals, Armin Zöggeler won his first bronze and a total of tenth world championship medal in the single seater.
