Preston Griffall (born June 6, 1984 in Salt Lake City ) is an American luge athlete .

Sporting development and successes

Preston Griffall has been involved in tobogganing since 1995. From 1999 to 2007 he competed in a two-seater with his partner Dan Joye , and later with Matt Mortensen as Untermann. In 2002 and 2003 the duo won both the title of Junior World Champion and the overall ranking of the Junior World Cup. In 2003 they were also US champions, in 2005 they took second place in the championships. Biggest success was the participation in the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin where Griffall finished eighth with his partner Joye. A year earlier, they had their best placement at a world championship: they finished sixth in Park City . The best result in the overall World Cup was a ninth place in the 2004/05 season , the best World Cup result a third place with the team in Königssee one season later .

In 2005, Griffall joined Garon Thorne at the Junior World Championships, but this collaboration was not continued.

In 2007, the US American Matt Mortensen, born in New York State in 1985, joined the sled as co-pilot . The new racing duo became US champions again in 2009, 2010 and 2013. They finished third at the 2011 World Cup race in Calgary , and sixth at the 2013 World Cup in Lake Placid . Also in 2013 they became silver medalists on the relay team with Julia Clukey and Chris Mazdzer. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi , Griffall and Matt Mortensen came in 14th.
