Luge World Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Luge World Cup (current official sponsor name : Viessmann World Cup ) is an annual luge competition series on artificial track during the winter . The races are organized by the FIL . The overall World Cup winner has been determined since the 1977/1978 season. Following the example of the Tour de France , the leaders in the overall World Cup wear a yellow jersey.

Currently, the World Cup season usually includes eight stations. As part of the World Cup, the single-seaters for men and women, the doubles-seaters and alternating sprint races in the three racing classes or the relay competition are held.

In non-Olympic winters, the Luge World Championships are the highlight of the luge season, but both competitions are not part of the World Cup.

World Cup points system

Current system

A point system for the individual races determines the overall World Cup ranking. For this purpose, the points achieved by an athlete in the individual races of the season are added. The allocation of points in the respective races is based on the FIL point system. In the current point system, the winner of a race receives 100 World Cup points, the second 85 and the third 70 points. The 39th place receives two World Cup points. From the 40th place onwards, each additional luge competitor who is rated receives one point. This distribution of points also applies to team competitions.
