The Bobsleigh World Cup is a series of bobsleigh competitions held annually from the end of November / beginning of December to February / March . The races are organized by the IBSF . For the 1984/85 season, the International Bobsleigh and Sledging Association was the last winter sports association to introduce an official World Cup series. The program was drawn up at the World Cup commission meeting in Munich under the leadership of the former Swiss association president Erwin Brazerol. The start took place from November 21 to 25, 1984 in Winterberg. In the years 1982 to 1984 the designation World Cup was used for an individual race in Cervinia that took place in January and was sponsored by an American television company.
Currently, the World Cup season usually includes eight stations. The two-man and four-man bobsleigh for men and, since the 1994/95 season, the two-man bobsleigh for women are held as part of the World Cup. In the case of the men, the scoring is also carried out in the combination, for which the points from the results of the two-man and four-man bobs are added. The most successful bobsleigh pilot after victories is the German Francesco Friedrich , who exceeded the previous record of his compatriot André Lange with his 46th success in January 2021 . With three successes he also leads the combination of two and four-man bobsleigh.
In non-Olympic winters, the bobsleigh and skeleton world championships , in which the world champions in bobsleigh and skeleton are determined, are the highlight of the world cup season. In contrast to biathlon , for example , the races within the framework of the world championship do not count towards the world cup.
With the 2007/08 season , a new point system came into effect. The winner now receives 225, the second 210 and the third 200 points. World Cup points are awarded up to 30th place, for which the pilot receives 20 points. The system is fitted into another system of world, intercontinental and continental cups. Accordingly, fewer points can be won in the lower-class competitions. In the event of a tie, the order is determined by comparing the placements.

Previous system
In the point system before the 2007/08 season, the first received 100, the second 90 and the third 80 points. Points were also awarded up to 30th place, but this only received one point. In the event of a tie, as in the current system, the order was determined by comparing the placements.
