Harald Czudaj (born February 14, 1963 in Wermsdorf ) is a former bobsleigh driver who started for the GDR and reunified Germany . At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he won the gold medal in the four-man bobsleigh.
Career
Czudaj initially started for SG Dynamo Zinnwald . He won four medals at the Bobsleigh World Championship of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing - two silver medals in the two and four-man bobsleigh, both in 1990 in St. Moritz for the GDR and two bronze medals in 1991 in Winterberg and 1995 in Altenberg in the four-man bobsleigh for Germany.
Harald Czudaj was twice European champion in the four-man bobsleigh. He won the gold medal for Germany in Königssee in 1992 and in Igls in 1998 . At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he was the coach of the Dutch bobsleigh drivers.
In May 2001, Czudaj went into sporting retirement.
Today Czudaj runs two large sports studios in Riesa and Coswig together with his former trainer Gerd Leopold . As a member of the supervisory board of Wintersport Altenberg GmbH and as Vice President of BRC Riesa, he is still connected to bobsleigh and also drives senior races. At the World Championships in Altenberg in 2008, Czudaj worked as a track bob driver.
State Security staff
Czudaj worked as an unofficial employee with the code name "Ralf Richter" for the State Security of the GDR and prepared reports about the passengers in his sled.
