William D'Amico

William John ("Bill") D'Amico (born October 3, 1910 in Utica , New York , † October 30, 1984 in Lake Placid , New York) was an American bobsledder .

A World War II veteran and restaurateur, D'Amico was known as a versatile athlete: he was a speed skater , skiing , playing football and golf . However, he was by far the most successful as a bobsleigh driver. He won three four-man gold medals; at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz and at the 1949 World Championships in Lake Placid and 1950 in Cortina d'Ampezzo . In the latter, he also won a bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh (together with Frederick Fortune ).
