Maximilian Arndt (born July 23, 1987 in Suhl ) is a former German bobsleigh athlete . His greatest successes were victories at the world championships in four-man bobsleigh in 2013 and 2015 .

Career

Maximilian Arndt from BSR Rennsteig Oberhof started bobsleigh in 2003. The team of his pushers consists of René Teuert, Cliff Denner, Florian Kunze and Fabian Gneupel. At the Junior World Championships in 2007 he won the title in the two-man bobsleigh and the silver medal in the big sled. In 2008 he was able to repeat the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh, but just missed another medal in fourth place in the small sled. Nationally he won the junior title in 2006 and 2007 and was second in the four in 2007 behind Oliver Harraß .

In December 2006, Arndt made his debut in the European Bobsleigh Cup with Lucas Kuske as a pusher and was 12th in Königssee . In January, he achieved a first single-digit placement in Winterberg with pusher Jens Nohka with fifth place. In November 2007, he won his first European Cup race in the two-man bobsleigh in Igls . In December 2008 he was able to win a European Cup race for the second time with pushing Denner in Altenberg . In 2010 Arndt became Junior World Champion in the two-man bobsleigh and came third in the four-man. On his World Cup debut in November 2010 on the difficult track in Whistler , he achieved a good fifth place in the two-man bobsleigh with Martin Putze and two days later in a four-man came second behind Olympic champion Steven Holcomb . His successful bobsleigh was pushed by René Teuert , Martin Putze and Alexander Rödiger . In the following races in Calgary and Lake Placid , he achieved two more podium places in the four-man bobsleigh. At the Junior World Championship in 2011 he won the title in a four-man and finished second in a two-man.

In the winter of 2011/12 Maximilian Arndt won his first World Cup race on January 8, 2012 in Altenberg in the four-man bobsleigh. Two weeks later he won in St. Moritz with both bobsleighs. He finished second in the overall World Cup and also won the combined ranking. At the 2012 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid , he won the bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh with Kevin Kuske , the silver medal with the German team with Steven Deja and the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh with Alexander Rödiger , Kevin Kuske and Martin Putze . A year later, he and his crew won the title at the World Championships in St. Moritz in the four-man bobsleigh. In 2012 , 2013 and 2016 Arndt also became European champion in the four-man bobsleigh.

In June 2016, Arndt announced his retirement from competitive sports. He is a police master and was a member of the sports promotion group of the Thuringian police .

Arndt married his long-time girlfriend Annemarie in the summer of 2018. The couple have three daughters together and live in Oberhof.
