Gerhard Redl

Gerhard Redl (born April 18, 1962 in Dimbach ) is a former Austrian bobsleigh driver who was European champion in the four-man bobsleigh in 1989 .

Athletic career

The 1.80 m tall Gerhard Redl from the Wattens sports club took part in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Peter Kienast's bobsleigh and finished eleventh together with Franz Siegl and Christian Mark . In 1986 the four-man bobsleigh with Kienast, Siegl, Redl and Mark won the bronze medal at the European bobsleigh championships behind the Swiss bobsleigh by Hans Hiltebrand and the GDR bobsleigh by Bernhard Lehmann . At the 1986 Bobsleigh World Championship , the Swiss Erich Schärer won ahead of Peter Kienast and his team.

In 1988 Redl was part of the team around bobsleigh pilot Ingo Appelt . At the 1988 Winter Olympics , the four-man bobsleigh with Ingo Appelt, Josef Muigg , Gerhard Redl and Harald Winkler took seventh place. In the following year at the European bobsleigh championships in 1989 , the Austrian four-man bobsleigh with Ingo Appelt, Harald Winkler, Gerhard Redl and Jürgen Mandl won the title, after 1978 it was the second European title for Austria in the four-man bobsleigh. In 1990 Austria won gold and silver in the four-man bobsleigh, behind the bob driven by Peter Kienast , Appelt, Redl, Mandl and Winkler received the silver medal. At the 1990 World Bobsleigh Championship , the Swiss four-man bobsleigh, controlled by Gustav Weder, won ahead of Harald Czudaj from the GDR, while Appelt, Redl, Mandl and Winkler received bronze medals.

In 1993 Winkler and Redl met again in Hubert Schösser's Bob . At the European Bobsleigh Championship in 1993 , the Swiss Gustav Weder won ahead of the German Dirk Wiese , followed by Hubert Schösser, Gerhard Redl, Harald Winkler and Gerhard Haidacher the bronze medal. In the FIBT World Championships 1993 won also Gustav Weder, the Austrian Bobsled won the silver medal. At his third start at the Olympic Games in 1994 in Lillehammer , Redl missed a medal by almost four tenths of a second in Hubert Schösser's four-man bobsleigh. In 1995 Schösser, Redl, Thomas Schroll and Martin Schützenauer took second place at the European Championships behind Wolfgang Hoppe's German four . Hubert Schösser's team also won silver behind Hoppe's Bob at the 1995 Bobsleigh World Championship .
