Fritz Ohlwärter
Fritz Ohlwärter (born February 25, 1948 in Rosenheim ) is a former German bobsleigh driver who was European champion in the four-man bobsleigh in 1973 .
The trained locksmith Fritz Ohlwärter started as a track and field athlete at TSV 1860 Rosenheim , he had a best performance of 6045 points in the decathlon and 7.02 meters in the long jump . From 1971 he competed in bobsleigh for the WSV Königssee .
He achieved his first successes in 1973 when he won the German championship in the two-man bobsleigh with Georg Heibl . At the European Championships in 1973, the two finished fourth. In the four-man bobsleigh, Ohlwärter replaced Walter Steinbauer with Wolfgang Zimmerer's bobsleigh . The bobsleigh with Zimmerer, Peter Utzschneider , Stefan Gaisreiter and Ohlwärter won the European title. At the 1973 World Bobsleigh Championship , Walter Steinbauer was back in Wolfgang Zimmerer's bobsleigh.
In 1974 Ohlwärter won the German four-man bobsleigh championship in Georg Heibl's bobsleigh. At the 1974 Bobsleigh World Championship , Heibl and Ohlwärter received the silver medal behind Zimmerer and Utzschneider. In 1975 Heibl and Ohlwärter won the German championship title in the two-man bobsleigh. At the 1975 Bobsleigh World Championship, the two won the silver medal behind the Italians Giorgio Alverà and Franco Perruquet . In the four-man bobsleigh, Ohlwärter competed with Zimmerer, Utzschneider and Albert Wurzer and won another silver medal behind the Swiss bobsleigh driven by Erich Schärer .
In the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck Georg Heibl and Fritz were Ohlwärter in both competitions and occupied twice in fifth place, in the four along with Hans Morant and Siegfried Radandt . A year later, Fritz Ohlwärter won the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh at the 1977 Bobsleigh World Championship together with Jakob Resch , Herbert Berg and Walter Barfuss . Fritz Ohlwärter won his last international medal at the 1979 Bobsleigh World Championship on his home track at Königssee, when he drove for Manfred Schumann as a pusher for Stefan Gaisreiter in the fourth run and received silver behind Erich Schärer.
