Jānis Strenga (born February 6, 1986 in Sigulda ) is a Latvian bobsleigh athlete .

Career

In the 2013/14 season he won his first two World Cup races in the four-man bobsleigh in St. Moritz and Igls . At these World Cups he was active as a pusher for Oskars Melbārdis .

Jānis Strenga started at the 2014 Winter Olympics in the four-man bobsleigh as Oskars Melbārdis' pusher. Together with this, Daumants Dreiškens and Arvis Vilkaste he became Olympic champion . In the same formation, Strenga became European champion in 2015 and won bronze at the world championships . The following year he became world champion in the four-man bobsleigh in Igls , again with Melbārdis, Dreiškens and Vilkaste. In 2018 he was a pusher in the two-man bobsleigh run by Oskars Melbārdis at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and won the bronze medal with him. They finished fifth in the four-man bobsleigh.
