Roberto Zandonella

Roberto Zandonella Necca (born April 14, 1944 in Comelico Superiore ) is a former Italian bobsledder who was Olympic champion in the four-man bobsleigh in 1968 .

Zandonella was Italian champion in 1965 and 1967. He won his first international title at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, when the four-man bobsleigh driven by Eugenio Monti with Luciano De Paolis , Zandonella and Mario Armano won the gold medal with nine hundredths of a second on the Austrian bobsleigh. The following year, Zandonella and Armano started at the Bobsleigh World Championship in 1969 together with Sergio Pompanin in the bobsleigh driven by Gianfranco Gaspari and finished second behind the German bobsleigh. At the 1970 Bobsleigh World Championship in St. Moritz, Nevio De Zordo , Roberto Zandonella, Mario Armano and Luciano De Paolis competed in the four-man bobsleigh and won ahead of the German defending champions. At the 1972 Olympic Games , Nevio De Zordo won the silver medal with a new team. Zandonella, Armano and De Paolis took eighth place with Gianfranco Gaspari.

Professionally, Zandonella worked as an engineer in a construction company. In 2009 he was honored for his commitment to promoting young athletes.
