Gottfried Diener (bobsledder)

Gottfried Diener (born November 1, 1926 in Zurich ; † May 26, 2015 in Engelberg ) was a Swiss bobsleigh driver who was 1956 Olympic champion in the four-man bobsleigh .

Gottfried Diener started for the Zurich Bob Club . At the Bobsleigh World Championship in 1954 , he won the four-man bobsleigh title together with pilot Fritz Feierabend , Harry Warburton and Heinrich Angst , with Franz Kapus replacing him in the evening . Franz Kapus returned the following year and won the title at the 1955 Bobsleigh World Championship together with Gottfried Diener, Robert Alt and Heinrich Angst . In this line-up, the four Swiss also competed in the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo and won the gold medal there.

Diener, who had already worked as a crossbowman, gymnast and wrestler before his short career as a bobsleigh driver, was President of the International Crossbowmen Union (IAU) from 1965 to 1999.
