Thomas Lamparter (born June 9, 1978 in Bern ) is a Swiss bobsleigh driver . He is one of the best pushers in bobsleigh in the 2000s.

biography

Lamparter first learned the profession of cook, later he studied computer science and became a computer engineer. The athlete has been part of the Swiss national team since 2002. In his first season he was a push for Francisco Baños in the four-man bobsleigh, Pius Meyerhans in the two-man bobsleigh and at the Swiss Push Championships for Martin Annen (second place). The best result was a second place in the European Bobsleigh Cup , which was achieved in a four in St. Moritz . In the overall ranking of the four-man bobsleigh competition, he reached third place. For the following season Lamparter switched to Annen's four-man bobsleigh. With him, the Bernese won the title of Swiss champion and was fifth in the overall ranking of the World Cup. At the Swiss championships he also competed in the two-man bobsleigh with Urs Hefti and finished fifth. He was also Swiss champion in Annens four-man bobsleigh in the 2004/05 season . In the overall ranking of the World Cup, the team came in second. The World Championships in Calgary brought a sixth place in the four and with Daniel Schmid an eighth place in the competition of two.

Since the 2005/06 season , the Annen team with Lamparter has also had success at major international events. They came third in the overall ranking of the World Cup and won their home World Cup race in Igls . The 2006 European Bobsleigh Championships in St. Moritz brought the gold medal in the four-man bobsleigh and fifth place with Schmid in the two-man bobsleigh. Winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Turin was rated even higher . In addition, the third win of the title came at the Swiss championships, followed by the fourth in the following season. In the 2006/07 season Lamparter only competed in the Swiss four-bobsleigh championships in Annens, most of the season he was a pusher for Ivo Rüegg . The highlight of the post-Olympic season was the 2007 Bobsleigh World Championship in St. Moritz, where the Rüegg bobsleigh team won the gold medal. With Schmid he finished fifth in a two-man. In the team competition held for the first time, he also won the bronze medal. With Schmid he reached third place in the World Cup in Igls for the first time a podium place in the two-man bobsleigh, with Rüegg Lamparter won a race of the four-man World Cup.

In 2007, Lamparter became the first pusher to join the new bobsleigh team of his long-time pushing colleague at Annen and Rüegg, Beat Hefti . With him he won the overall rankings in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh of the overall European Cup in an outstanding manner. They won four races of the season and were promoted to the World Cup for the 2008/09 season . In the first two-man race, the Hefti / Lamparter team managed to win in Winterberg thanks to an outstanding push . At the end of the season they finished first in the two-man bobsleigh and seventh in the four-man bobsleigh in the overall World Cup standings. In the next season they were able to win three races in the two-man bobsleigh together, but only finished fourth in the overall standings. In the four-man bobsleigh, it was only enough for 16th place in the overall World Cup ranking. At the 2010 European Championships in Igls , they won the gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Lampater was unable to take part in the two-man bobsleigh race due to a Heftis concussion he suffered from a training fall. In the four-man bobsleigh, he took part as a push in Ivo Rüegg's team, which took sixth place.
