Thomas Florschütz (born February 20, 1978 in Sonneberg ) is a former German bobsleigh pilot who competed for the BRC Riesa .

Career

The law enforcement officer, trained by Gerd Leopold , has been bobsleigh since 2001, before he was a luge and won the FIL Summer Cup in his age group around 1997 . In 2004 he was the runner-up in a four-man bobsleigh behind Jānis Miņins in Cortina d'Ampezzo . Florschütz had his breakthrough in the senior division in 2006 in the European Cup , where he won the two-man and four-man competitions, having finished second in the two-man bobsleigh and seventh in the four-man bobsleigh in the previous season. He won two races in two, three in four.

In the 2006/07 season, Florschütz started more often in the World Cup. Several times he was able to occupy good ranks, up to fourth places. In the overall standings, he finished 16th in a two-man and 18th in a four-man. He also took fourth place at his first European championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the four-man bobsleigh. In two he was sixth with Mirko Pätzold . At the final German Championships in Königssee , he won the titles in both bobsleigh classes, after he was third in a two-man in 2005.

In the 2007/08 season he was runner-up in the two-man bobsleigh in Altenberg. In the 2008/09 season he first won three World Cups in Igls, Königssee and Vancouver / Whistler. He also took second place in the four-man bobsleigh and third place in the two-man bobsleigh at the EM in St. Moritz. In addition, he was runner-up in the two-man bobsleigh in Lake Placid for the second time and won gold in the team competition together with Sandra Kiriasis' two-man bobsleigh and the skeleton pilots Frank Rommel and Marion Trott . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Florschütz was one of the favorites. With Richard Adjei as a pusher, he won the silver medal in two behind the second German bobsleigh with André Lange and Kevin Kuske on the Whistler track . In the four, he finished fourth.

Before the 2014/15 season, Florschütz did not meet the starting time standards of the association and therefore could not take part in the World Cup races. In November 2015, Florschütz announced the end of his career.

Florschütz's team included the pushers / brakemen Richard Adjei , Andreas Barucha , Enrico Kühn , Marc Kühne , Kevin Kuske , Ronny Listner , Mirko Pätzold , Nico Scheler , Sascha Schelter and Daniel Hoch-Kraft .

Florschütz is the younger brother of the luge driver André Florschütz . As a Thuringian police commissioner, he lives in Erfurt . He was a member of the police sports promotion group and works as a sports instructor at the Thuringian Police Education Center in Meiningen .
