European Bobsleigh Championship 2009

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2009 European Bobsleigh Championship was held from January 16 to January 18, 2009 on the bobsleigh run in St. Moritz . It was held parallel to the sixth race of the 2008/09 Bobsleigh World Cup and the 2009 European Skeleton Championships .

For the evaluation of the European Championship, the results of the non-European bobsleigh teams were simply deleted from the World Cup evaluation, separate races did not take place. Germany became the most successful nation with two gold, silver and bronze medals each. By winning the two-man bobsleigh, André Lange became the most successful athlete at the European Bobsleigh Championships . With seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals, he overtook the previous record holder Christoph Langen (7 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze). Thomas Florschütz celebrated his first European Championship medals with a silver in a four and a bronze in a two. In the women's two-man bobsleigh, Sandra Kiriasis won her fourth European title in a row, which means that the German women have remained unbeaten at the European championships that have been held since 2004. The European Championship premiere of the team competition, which was actually planned to conclude the event, was canceled by the FIBT for organizational reasons, since the time for packing the sled for transport overseas would have been too short if the race had been held.
