Marc Kühne (bobsleigh driver)

Marc Kühne (born September 6, 1976 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German bobsleigh driver .

Marc Kühne was a sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Frankenberg and Oberhof. The sergeant major was initially a decathlete . He first came into contact with bobsleigh at the Olympic training center in Halle, but did not move there until 1998. Until 2007 he joined Matthias Höpfner's team. Then he moved to René Spies , who ended his career before the start of the season due to injuries. Kühne then switched to Karl Angerer . In the 2008/09 season he joined Thomas Florschütz's team.

Kühne was able to achieve various successes with Höpfner. First they won the 2002 Junior World Championships in two and four-man bobsleigh. In the following year they finished eighth at the four-man World Championships, fourth in 2004 and seventh in 2005. At the Team World Cup, which was held for the first time in St. Moritz , Kühne won the gold medal with the German team, which also included Karl Angerer , Sandra Kiriasis and Berit Wiacker as well as the skeleton riders Monique Riekewald and Frank Kleber . In 2009 he and Thomas Florschütz won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the World Championships in Lake Placid. There was also a silver medal in the four-man and a bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2009 European Championships in St. Moritz.

At the European Championships, the Höpfner / Kühne doubles came fourth in 2005, and they won the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh. Greatest sporting achievements was participation in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . Here the duo took fifth place. In 2003 the German championship title, both in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh, was won. In the following year the silver medal in both classes, in 2005 the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh. In 2006 the title was won again in the two-man bobsleigh and the runner-up in the four-man bobsleigh.
