Novella Calligaris
Novella Calligaris (born December 27, 1954 in Padua ) is a former Italian swimmer .
Her greatest success was winning the world championship in 1973 in Belgrade in the 800 m freestyle in front of the American Jo Harshbarger . Also at the 1973 World Cup, she won bronze in the 400 m freestyle. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , she won bronze twice and silver once. At the 1974 European Championships in Vienna , she won one bronze and one silver. In 1986 she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame . In her career she won 36 Italian titles and swam 82 Italian records and 21 European records.
