Todd Hays
Todd Dennys Hays (born May 21, 1969 in Del Rio , Texas ) is a former American bobsleigh driver .
Athletic career
Hays played American football at the University of Tulsa and spent two years with the Toronto Argonauts . He was then a kickboxer until the beginning of his career as a bobsleigh pilot in 1996 , and in 1993 he won the American kickboxing championships.
In 2002 he won the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City with Randy Jones , Bill Schuffenhauer and Garrett Hines , the first US medal in bobsleigh since 1956. In the two-man bobsleigh, he finished fourth in 2002 together with Hines. At the 2003 World Cup , Hayes drove the four-man bobsleigh again to the silver medal in the same line-up as in 2002, and together with Jones he finished fourth in the two-man bobsleigh. In the following year, Hayes won the bronze medal at the 2004 World Championships with Pavle Jovanovic , Schuffenhauer and Steve Mesler and finished seventh in the two-man bobsleigh with Jovanovic. At the 2005 World Cup , Hays drove the four-bobsleigh with the same line-up as in 2004 to fifth place.
After two seventh places at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Hays ended his active career to become a coach. For the 2008/2009 season , however, he returned as a driver until he was injured in a fall in the winter of 2009/2010 and had to end his career due to brain haemorrhage.
