Christoph Langen (born March 27, 1962 in Cologne ) is one of the most successful German bobsleigh drivers . From 2010 to 2016 he was the national coach of the German bobsleigh squad.

Langen is a trained car mechanic and started his athletic career as a track and field athlete at TV 1864 Altötting. As a youth he was a Bavarian high jump champion and a decathlete with good prospects.

Christoph Langen began his bobsleigh career in 1985 as a pusher for bobsleigh pilots Anton Fischer and Christian Schebitz . With Fischer he became German champion in the two-man bobsleigh in 1985. Originally he came from the triple jump. In 1991 he won his first world title with Wolfgang Hoppe , which spurred him on to drive a bobsleigh himself. In the following year he achieved his first Olympic medal with third place in the two-man bobsleigh in Albertville . As a result, he achieved another Olympic bronze medal (1998 in two) and two Olympic victories (1998 in four and 2002 in two). He had to break off the four-man bobsleigh competition in 2002 due to an injury (tear in the sole of the foot) and pause the 2002/2003 season.

The professional soldier of the Bundeswehr, Christoph Langen, starting for SpVgg Unterhaching , is five times world champion in two (1993, 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2001), two times world champion in four (1996 and 2001), five times European champion in two (1994, 1995, 1996, 2001) and 2004) and two-time European champion in four (1996 and 1999), three-time World Cup winner in two (1996, 1999 and 2004) and two-time World Cup winner in four (1996, 1999).

Christoph Langen's strength lay primarily in his ambition and technical understanding. As a perfectionist, he has always succeeded in bringing the best material to the start and in being among the top international even in old age.

In February 2004, Langen played his last competition at the Bobsleigh World Championships in Königssee , where he won the silver medal in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh. In the fall of 2004, his career suffered a setback when a routine examination revealed a narrowing of a coronary artery that had to be corrected surgically. After tearing the plantar tendon in spring 2002 and two Achilles tendon tears in spring 1997 and autumn 2002, Langen had already returned three times. However, there was no longer a fourth comeback and a planned start at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . On October 10, 2005, Langen announced the end of his bobsleigh career after 20 years. Doctors had previously advised him not to resume competitive sport.

For his outstanding sporting achievements, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf .

He works in bobsleigh as a consultant and expert on television. On July 1, 2010, Langen became the successor to Raimund Bethge , who was retiring at that time, and coach of the German bobsleigh team. Christoph Langen headed the sports promotion group in Berchtesgaden as a sergeant major until he was promoted to national coach. In April 2016 he ended his job as a national coach.

Christoph Langen has been training the Swiss Sliding junior squad since summer 2016.

From 2006 he took part in the Wok World Championship organized by Stefan Raab every year and has already won the world championship three times as part of the team.
