Alfred Hammer (* 20th century ) is a former German bobsleigh athlete.

Life

Hammer comes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He became a member of SC Rießersee , one of the leading local winter sports clubs in the 1950s and 1960s. As a sports discipline, he chose the four-man bobsleigh, with which he was soon so successful that it was used in national and international competitions. He soon belonged to Hans Rösch's successful bobsleigh team , with whom he was one of the best German four-man bobsleigh teams for a number of years, and with which he became both German champion and world champion in four-man bobsleigh.

He and the team Hans Rösch, J. Hummerl and Sylvester Wackerle achieved their first national success in 1956 when they won the German championship in the four-man bobsleigh. The first highlight of the Rösch four-man bobsleigh was winning the world championship in 1958 . On the Rießerseer Olympic bobsleigh run, his bobsleigh in the line-up of Hans Rösch, Alfred Hammer, Theodor Bauer and Walter Haller beat the rival from Ohlstadt in the line-up of Franz Schelle , Eduard Kaltenberger , Josef Sterff and Otto Göbl , who came second. In 1960 Rösch and his team with Alfred Hammer were again German champions in the four-man bobsleigh. At the World Championships in 1960 Rösch and Hammer took part again, but had to admit defeat by the Italian team and came second and won the silver medal.

For winning the gold medal at the Bobsleigh World Championships in 1958, the German four-man bobsleigh team was awarded the silver laurel leaf by the Federal President on September 12, 1959.
