Stefan Gaisreiter

Stefan Gaisreiter (born December 10, 1947 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) is a former German bobsleigh driver . In 1972 he won an Olympic bronze medal and in 1979 the world championship in the four-man bobsleigh .

Stefan Gaisreiter started for SV Ohlstadt and started as a pusher for Wolfgang Zimmerer . In 1968 he won his first German championship title together with Wolfgang Zimmerer, Peter Utzschneider and Walter Steinbauer . At the Olympic Games in Grenoble in 1968 , the bobsleigh finished ninth. In 1969 the bobsled won the title in the same line-up at the World Championships in Lake Placid. In 1970 the four Ohlstadt European champions, at the 1970 World Championships Gaisreiter fell out due to injury and was replaced by Pepi Bader , the bobsleigh won the silver medal. In 1971 the bobsleigh won silver at the European championship and bronze at the world championship . After the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Sapporo in 1972 , bronze at the World Championship and gold at the European Championship followed in 1973 , with Fritz Ohlwärter in the bobsleigh for Manfred Steinbauer at the European Championship .

In 1974, Stefan Gaisreiter switched from pusher to the position of bobsleigh pilot. With the pusher Manfred Schumann he immediately won the German championship in the two-man bobsleigh. In 1976 he won again at the German championship with Donat Ertel , and at the European championship, the two finished second behind the Swiss Erich and Peter Schärer . Gaisreiter, Hans Wagner , Donat Ertel and Walter Gillik won the title in the four-man bobsleigh . In 1977 Stefan Gaisreiter and Manfred Schumann won the German championship and took third place in the world championship . After the German championship title in the four-man bobsleigh in 1978, Gaisreiter won both German championship titles in 1979. At the 1979 World Cup , Gaisreiter and Schumann won the silver medal, with Fritz Ohlwärter stepping in for the injured Schumann in the fourth round. Gaisreiter won his last international medal in 1979 in the four-man bobsleigh, together with Dieter Gebhard , Hans Wagner and Heinz Busche he won the world championship at Königssee .

For this he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Carstens in 1979.

In 1980 Gaisreiter and Gebhard won the championship title in the two-man bobsleigh again, but like in 1976 Gaisreiter was unable to qualify as a pilot for the Olympic Games.
