Joshua Bluhm (born September 11, 1994 in Kiel ) is a German bobsleigh athlete , former soccer player and track and field athlete .

Career

Joshua Bluhm was initially a footballer. He completed several test matches with the clubs Holstein Kiel , Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli , but was not signed. Because of his sprinter qualities, he was accepted into the athletics department of Bayer 04 Leverkusen . For this change of sport, Bluhm left his parents' house in Nortorf at the age of 16 . After moving to Leverkusen , he won the German youth championships in 2011 and 2012 in the 4 × 100 m discipline with Bayer 04 Leverkusen's sprint relay .

In 2013 Joshua Bluhm was approached by athletic trainer Thomas Prange on a sprint course of the German Athletics Association and convinced to try his hand at bobsleigh as a pusher, as he performed very well in sprinting despite his high weight. Bluhm moved to Paderborn , where he started studying linguistics while training with Thomas Prange .

In January 2014 he finally celebrated his World Cup premiere, where he achieved the bronze rank on his first appearance in the team of the German national bobsleigh team. On January 23, the German Olympic Sports Federation announced Bluhm's nomination for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. He contested this on Thomas Florschütz's sled together with Christian Poser and Kevin Kuske seventh in the four-man bobsleigh.

At the 2015 World Championships in Winterberg, he won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh as a pusher for Johannes Lochner . At the 2016 World Championships in Innsbruck, the two were able to win the silver medal again. In 2017, the duo won the bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2017 World Championships and won the world championship title in the four-man bobsleigh for the first time.

Bluhm has been an integral part of the German national bobsleigh team since 2014.

Private

On June 27, 2015, Bluhm had a motorcycle accident, which he survived seriously injured. In the same season in which the accident occurred, he and pilot Johannes Lochner won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the World Championships in Innsbruck. For this achievement he was awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize. Bluhm has had a residence in Munich since 2015 .
