Matthias Benesch
Matthias "Benni" Benesch (born August 28, 1968 in Merseburg ) is a former German bobsleigh driver and current sports functionary .
Career
He trained at the children's and youth sports school (KJS) in Halle and at the SC Einheit Dresden pole vault . In 1987 he switched to bobsleigh at SG Dynamo Zinnwald , where he achieved success in two and four-man bobsleighs until 2003. Benesch was a soldier in the sports promotion group Berchtesgaden for 12 years. As a sergeant major, he ended his sporting career in 2003. In 2005 he made up his Abitur at the Naumburg Armed Forces College and then studied at the Saxony University of Cooperative Education in Riesa with a focus on sports event management and marketing.
Since October 2007 he has been the managing director of Wintersport Altenberg (Osterzgebirge) GmbH , which takes care of the operation of the Altenberg racing sled and bobsled run . The highlights of his work were the hosting of the Bobsleigh World Championship in 2008 and the parallel Skeleton World Championship in 2008 . In September 2018 it was announced that Benesch will move to the top of the Luge, Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association of Saxony at the end of the 2018/19 season and has therefore asked the shareholders to be dismissed as managing director of Wintersport Altenberg (Osterzgebirge) GmbH . The district council of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district approved this request in September 2018. Jens Morgenstern became his successor as managing director of Wintersport Altenberg (Osterzgebirge) GmbH on June 1, 2019 .

- Bronze at the European Championships in 2002 in a foursome in Cortina d'Ampezzo

- Winner of the Senior European Championship in two in Innsbruck
- 2 × junior world champion in a foursome: 1993 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, 1994 in St. Moritz
