Steffen Görmer

Steffen Görmer (born July 28, 1968 in Merseburg ) is a former German athlete and bobsleigh driver who was European champion in the four-man bobsleigh in 1998 .

Görmer was with SC Chemie Halle from 1984 to 1990 and then with the successor club SV Halle . Görmer won four GDR championships. In 1989 he won over 60 meters and over 100 yards indoors, and in 1990 he won again over 60 meters. At the last GDR outdoor championships in 1990, Görmer won the 100-meter run . In 1991 behind Steffen Bringmann and in 1993 behind Marc Blume he was second over 100 meters at the German Championships, in 1992 he won the 60 meter indoor gym.

Görmer started as a track and field athlete eleven times internationally for the GDR and nine times for Germany. At the European Championships in 1990 he finished eighth over 100 meters in 10.42 seconds with the aid of the wind, the GDR relay had to give up after losing baton. A year later, the German relay was disqualified at the 1991 World Championships . Marc Blume, Robert Kurnicki , Michael Huke and Steffen Görmer took sixth place at the 1993 World Championships . The German relay team with Holger Blume , Görmer, Huke and Marc Blume also took sixth place at the European Championships in 1994

Görmer achieved his best performance over 100 meters of 10.28 seconds in Rostock in 1989 and again in Rhede in 1993.

Bobsleigh

After the end of his athletics career, the qualified sports teacher tried his hand at bobsleigh, starting for the BRC Riesa . In winter 1998 he was part of the team of bobsleigh pilot Harald Czudaj . At the German Championships, Czudaj, Torsten Voss , Görmer and Alexander Szelig won the title in the four-man bobsleigh. In the same line-up, the team also won the title at the European Championships. At the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Czudaj and his team reached eighth place, 0.31 seconds behind the silver medal, only Olympic champion Christoph Langen and his team were able to clearly break away.
