Walter Steinbauer
Walter Steinbauer (born January 20, 1945 in Dießen am Ammersee , † May 28, 1991 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) was a German bobsleigh driver . In 1972 he won an Olympic bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh .
Walter Steinbauer started for SV Ohlstadt and was a pusher for Wolfgang Zimmerer . In 1968 he won his first German championship title together with Wolfgang Zimmerer, Peter Utzschneider and Stefan Gaisreiter . In 1969 the bobsled won the title in the same line-up at the World Championships in Lake Placid. In 1970 the four Ohlstadt European champions, at the 1970 World Championships Gaisreiter fell out due to injury and was replaced by Pepi Bader , the bobsleigh won the silver medal. In 1971 the bobsleigh won silver at the European championship and bronze at the world championship . After the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Sapporo in 1972 , bronze also followed in 1973 at the world championships . In 1975 Steinbauer won his second German championship title, this time as a pusher for Klaus Heiß .
For his sporting success he received - together with the four-man bobsleigh team - the silver laurel leaf on June 8, 1970.
