Nicolae Neagoe

Nicolae Neagoe (born August 2, 1941 in Sinaia ) is a former Romanian bobsledder .

He was a wrestler and soccer player in his youth and started bobsleigh at the age of 20. In 1966 he reached the fifth place as a pusher for Ion Panțuru at the Bobsleigh World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo and sixth at the European Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the same year. At the European Bobsleigh Championship in Innsbruck in 1967 , Neagoe won the gold medal in the four-man bobsleigh with Petre Hristovici , Gheorghe Maftei and pilot Ion Panțuru ahead of Austria and Germany. He was also runner-up in the two-man bobsleigh with Ion Panțuru behind the Austrian bobsleigh driven by Erwin Thaler .

In 1968 Neagoe took part in the Winter Olympics in Grenoble . There the duo Panțuru / Neagoe won the bronze medal behind Italy and Germany. For Romania this was the first and so far (as of 2018) only medal at the Winter Olympics. The four-man bobsleigh was also fourth, a tenth of a second behind the Swiss.

At the 1968 European Championships in St. Moritz, Neagoe was runner-up behind the Swiss in the four-man bobsleigh. The Romanians were able to repeat this success at the European Bobsleigh Championship in Cervinia in 1969 , this time the Italians led by Alberto Frigo were faster on their home track. At the European Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1970 , Neagoe won the bronze medal.

Even after his active career, Neagoe remained loyal to bobsleigh and became a coach. He lives in Brebu (Prahova) .
