Erwin Thaler

Erwin Thaler (born May 21, 1930 in Innsbruck ; † November 29, 2001 ) was an Austrian bobsleigh athlete .

Career

Erwin Thaler celebrated his first international success in 1963 in Igls as a bronze medalist in the four-man bobsleigh together with Adolf Koxeder , Josef Nairz and Reinhold Durnthaler . In 1964, together with Durnthaler, Koxeder and Nairz, he won the silver medal behind the four-man bobsleigh run by Canadian Victor Emery at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. In the two-man bobsleigh, the pilot came eighth. In 1965 he and Koxeder won the gold medal in two in Cortina d'Ampezzo . They both repeated this success a year later in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and with Durnthaler in 1967 in Igls. In 1967 he won the world title in the two-man bobsleigh with Durnthaler in L'Alpe d'Huez . At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , Thaler repeated his success from Innsbruck in the four-man bobsleigh with Durnthaler, Herbert Gruber and Josef Eder and won the silver medal behind the bobsleigh of the Italian Eugenio Monti . In the two-man bobsleigh, he just missed a second medal in fourth place. In 1969, the Thaler / Durnthaler doubles won the European Championship title in the two-man bobsleigh in Cervina .

In 1996 he received the Silver Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria .
