The listed tombstone for Dumitru Hubert in the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest

Dumitru Hubert (born September 3, 1899 in Bucharest , † August 27, 1934 in Brașov ) was a Romanian pilot and bobsleigh driver . In 1933 he became world champion in the two-man bobsleigh with Alexandru Papană .

Dumitru Hubert was - like his friend Papană - a member of the Romanian Air Force and, like the latter, worked as an aerobatic pilot . In 1932, the two men started together at the Olympic Games in Lake Placid and finished fourth in the two-man bobsleigh. Hubert and Papană also took part in the Olympic races in the four-man bobsleigh with Ulise Petrescu and Alexandru Ionescu ; the Romanian team finished sixth. The following year, Papană and Hubert became world champions in the two-man bobsleigh in Schreiberhau . At the bobsleigh world championships the following year in Engelberg , Switzerland , they won the bronze medal. In August 1934 Hubert had an accident at an air show in Brașov in front of 10,000 spectators. His plane collided with another aircraft in midair, and he was dead on the spot.

Hubert is buried in the Bucharest cemetery Cimitirul Șerban Vodă , popularly known as the Bellu cemetery . His tombstone by the sculptor Iosif Fekete is a listed building . A street in the Romanian capital is also named Strada Capitan Aviator Dumitru Hubert after him.
