Men's four-man bobsleigh

The world championship in the four-man bobsleigh was to take place on February 4th and 5th, 1933 on the Olympic track of 1924 in Chamonix , Switzerland . Since the holding of the event appeared to be endangered due to the lack of snowfall, mules first had to move snow from the mountains to the venue, and new snowfall also enabled the first training trips at the end of January. The German representation around Hanns Kilian decided not to participate in the world championship after visiting the track, because “the German bobsleigh are not suitable for such a track”. Due to the onset of the strong thaw, the event could not take place on the planned weekend and should be held at the same place in the course of the following week, alternatively at the same time as the two-man bobsleigh world championship in Schreiberhau.

On Tuesday, February 7th, three teams finally started the competition. After two runs, the French four-man bobsleigh with helmsman René Charlet (3: 03.77 min) led the Italian team (3: 18.75 min), while the Swiss bobsleigh fell in the second run and therefore did not make it into the ranking. According to another report, numerous bobsleighs got stuck in the dirt, so the race was canceled. Another contemporary source reports the abandonment after three championship races after several participants were injured from falls. The Romanian bobsleigh in the line-up Angelescu / Gribincea / Bârsănescu / Popescu is also said to have finished fifth.
